What to do with old candle jars? If you have a collection of old candle jars, give them a new life with candle refill kits. Our easy-to-use kits make it easy to make an old jar a new candle in 15 minutes.
Don't know what to do with the old candle jar? Here's how to clean it:
Empty the old candle jar using hot water. Boil a kettle and pour the hot water into the old candle jar. Wait until the wax softens and floats to the top of the old candle jar. Then, scoop the wax out (be careful not to burn yourself!), and throw it in the trash. Don't pour melted wax down the drain or it will harden and clog the pipes!
Once the wax is removed, pour the water down the drain and thoroughly dry the container. Water will contaminate wax, so you want to make sure your old candle jar is dry as a bone before using a candle refill kit.
When your old candle jar is nice and dry, grab your candle refill, tear open the bag, remove the wick, wick clip, and warning label, and a nonporous, microwave-safe dish. Place the bag with scented wax on the plate and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time (about 2 minutes, but microwave speed varies) until all of the wax is melted. Carefully pour the wax into the empty candle jar, wait for a shallow layer of wax to cool, and place the wick in the center of the jar. Allow the candle to cool and set for a minimum of 24 hours. When you're ready to light your candle, trim the wick to .25", set it on a heat-safe surface, and enjoy your new candle.
Ta-da! You just reused an old candle jar and turned it into a great smelling new candle!
