If you've spent your hard-earned dollars on a high-quality candle, you should learn how to burn a candle so it's got a smooth, long-lasting, even burn. Here are our tips on how to get your candles to burn evenly:
- It all starts with the first burn. When you burn your candle for the first time, you MUST let it burn long enough for the wax to pool to the edges of the container. Wax has a memory, so if you don't do this the wax will only pool out as far as you let it on the first burn. You can reset the wax memory by following our tips on How To Fix A Tunneling Candle, but it's so much easier to get it right the first time.
- Keep your lit candles away from drafts. Drafts will cause the lit flame to dance, which will cause uneven burning. Our high-end apricot coconut wax candles will typically even out if it creeps up the sides of the glassware or clings to the sides.
- Keep your candle on a flat, level surface and only handle your candle when the wax is cooled and solid. This might seem like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised by how many times people have told me they dropped a lit candle and got wax everywhere (my least favorite kind of message to receive beside "I left a candle lit overnight" because that one gives me nightmares!)
Getting a smooth, even burn from your candle is easy as long as you plan out when, where, and for how long you're going to burn a candle. If you only remember one thing about burning candles please let it be this: burn your candle long enough so the wax pools to the edges every single time.
