Our disco ball candles have been a bestseller for three years in a row. They smell amazing (sweet grapefruit, blood orange & oakmoss = tropical and fruity!) and add personality to any room. Even cats love them (a customer said her cats play with the light dancing on the walls 🤩).
So, let's go behind the scenes of our disco ball candle and talk about how they're made.Â
Step one: Inspection
The disco ball candle containers are fickle. They don't always ship well, and every single disco ball has to be thoroughly inspected before we turn it into a candle. We look for imperfections on the mirror tiles, excess cement, chips in the glass, inconsistencies in the bamboo lids, etc.Â
Step two: Prep
Once we determine which disco balls candle containers are aesthetically pleasing and, more importantly, safe to use, we add warning labels and prep the wicks. We use a larger wick in the disco balls so that the candle doesn't tunnel (when wax burns down instead of out). Each wick gets placed in a metal clip and stored until it's go-time.
Step three: Pour
Step three is the fun part. It's when a candle becomes a candle. We use a handheld industrial melter to pour our candles. It ensures that every single candle is consistent. The wax and fragrance are poured to the gram. It's one of the reasons people love our candles. Every single batch is exactly the same.
Step four: Wait
After we pour the wax, we have to wait for the wax to solidify at the bottom of the disco ball candle. We don't use glue adhesive dots in our candles. Instead, we place the wick clip and wick into the wax and let the candle harden around the wick. Other candle brands use adhesive dots to keep their wicks in place, but we wanted to make nontoxic candles that don't have heated glue permeating the air.
Step five: Wait some more
After our disco ball candles are poured, they go through what's called Curing. This is a crucial step that can't be skipped. It's when the fragrance adheres to the wax, and the wax hardens, which is what makes our candles so fragrant and gives them a great burn time. We like to give our candles a two-week cure time whenever possible. A week is okay because the candle will continue to cure while in transit.Â
Step six: Trim the wick and beautify the candleÂ
We trim our wicks before shipping and selling them. They're not at the ideal length, but they're ideal for picking, packing, and shipping. Then, we clean the wick trimmings from the wax and clean up the vessel, making sure any spilled wax is removed before the candle makes its way to you.Â
Step seven: Find the disco ball candle a good home
Our regular disco balls are shelved, and the slightly imperfect disco ball candles are sold at a discount. This makes the price point more accessible and prevents us from returning slightly imperfect vessels. It's more eco-friendly than transporting an imperfect item multiple times to a warehouse, which is the real reason we do it.Â
Disco ball candles are one of top five bestselling candles because they smell amazing and look gorgeous in any space. We're so glad you love them!Â
